Hi!

Siri isn't smart (yet). Reminders, Notes, and Calendar are.

That's the real reason short commands work and long, conversational ones don't — Siri just needs to map your voice to fields those apps already understand: a task, a list, a date, a person, a place.

Once you see it that way, four apps that always felt hit-or-miss with Siri start working the exact same predictable way.

This week's issue is about exactly that.

Quick Tip

If you are the organizer of a Family Sharing group, you can create a shared “Family Groceries” list in Reminders to keep everyone aligned for shopping. To check if you are using the Family feature and who is included, go to Settings -> tap your Apple Account -> Family.

And here is how to share any Apple Reminders list:

  1. Go to the Reminders app

  2. Select a reminder list, then click the Share icon

  3. If you do not want to allow people to add others to the list, Turn off "Allow adding people" before you send the invite — you can change it later.

  4. Choose how you would like to share your list.

A Note from me

September 9 is coming up fast, and this year feels different — everyone's watching for iOS 27, a smarter Siri, and new iPhones and Apple Watches.

In the meantime Apple also just refreshed the Mac mini with the new M6 and M5 Pro chips, and seeing those specs has me actually considering an upgrade from my aging M1 for the first time in years.

I'll be curious how much of the "smarter Siri" promise actually shows up in everyday use, since that's basically the whole point of this newsletter. If you want a head start on what's already confirmed, I broke it down after WWDC: What iOS 27 Actually Changes for Everyday Apple Users

See you soon!
